To enable the Emoji Keyboard, please go to home -> Setting-> Language & Keyboard, then check the Emoji Keyboard to enable it.
You may receive a warning when activating Emoji Keyboard saying “This keyboard may collect your personal data.” We take your privacy seriously. Emoji Keyboard does not collect your private data including password or credit card info. The warning message when you enable the keyboard is a standard message in Android for ANY third-party keyboard app.
WhatsApp uses emoji for its list of available emoticons. Emoji is a standard form of emoticon which works on all modern smartphones, tablets and computers.
Emoji characters can be difficult to discern at small sizes, so having the full sized version of each character available on Emojipedia can assist in sending the correct emoticons to your friends!
Why does WhatsApp for Android use Apple Emoji artwork?
WhatsApp has chosen to ignore the native emoji built into Android in favour of Apple’s emoji graphics.
This is presumably for consistency across messaging, although this means WhatsApp shows emoji differently to other apps – such as Messaging – on Android which use the native Android Emoji.
How do I use emoticons and smileys?
At this time, we do not have emoticons built in to WhatsApp for iPhone. However, emoticon support is built into every iPhone by using the "Emoji" keyboard. If you are using iOS version 5 or higher, instructions for enabling emoji can be found here .
Please note that iOS 6 has introduced additional emoji characters. In order to send and receive all of the new emoji characters, you will need to have upgraded your iPhone's software to iOS 6 or later. Instructions for upgrading your phone's software can be found here
